The Philadelphia 76ers made their first move of the free agency period with the addition of Dean Wade on a reported 4-year $39 million deal. Although they are hard capped at the first apron, the signing leaves a little wiggle room on the non-taxpayer mid-level exception and the Sixers bring in a player who can produce right away and is likely a night one starter.
Wade averaged 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 43.9% from the floor and 36.2% from deep. He averaged 3.3 attempts from beyond the arc per night and started 38 of the 59 games he appeared in and started 14 playoff games for the Cleveland Cavaliers as he helped them reach the Eastern Conference finals.
In an effort to get to know Wade, here is a look at what he brings to the table:
Wade’s profile and career thus far
A 7-year veteran out of Kansas State, Wade went undrafted before the Cavs picked him up ahead of the 2019-20 season. He was identified at the time by Mike Gansey, who was in Cleveland’s organization and is, obviously, now Philadelphia’s President of Basketball Operations. Wade has career averages of 5.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while shooting 36.7% from deep on 3.2 attempts. His raw numbers aren’t anything special, but Wade is a player who can do it all and really help Philadelphia in a number of different ways.
Wade on offense
Wade is a guy who doesn’t need to have plays called for him. He will find his offense in the flow of things whether that’s on catch-and-shoot opportunities when teammates are doubled or by moving well without the basketball and finding open spots within the defense. He is a terrific cutter and is somebody who just knows how to play basketball, which is important in coach Nick Nurse’s offense. Per Cleaning the Glass, he shot 41% on corner 3-pointers in the 2025-26 season, which is in the 64th percentile and he had a true shooting percentage of 58%. He is efficient with the opportunities he gets out on the floor.

So! The #Sixers have agreed to a deal with Dean Wade. It’s time for a video thread!
He is a terrific corner 3-point shooter. Per CTG, he shot 41% on corner 3s. He can spot up in the corner and knock down open looks within Philly’s offense, like in this 1st video. pic.twitter.com/su44xs9XtM

Wade on defense
Wade isn’t some lockdown defender, but he can guard, which is important. He is a versatile defender, too, as he is somebody who can defend multiple positions out on the floor. When looking at his defensive matchups, he defended the likes of Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero to Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham and everybody else in between. He isn’t going to make any All-Defensive Teams, but Wade will get down in a stance and guard. That type of effort goes a long way for any team, and he can start right away next to Joel Embiid and Paul George. His presence will take some pressure off both guys defensively.
