Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas didn’t hold back discussing the aftermath of her suspension for the contact she made with her fist into the throat of Caitlin Clark. And what she revealed is horrible.
She said that she’s received death threats online and she’s been called racial slurs. And she spoke out to criticize WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert over not speaking out.
“We still have yet to hear anything from Cathy. It’s no surprise,” Thomas said on Tuesday, via USA TODAY Sports. “You can see what’s being said on social media … but as usual, she remains silent and that’s unfortunate when our lives are being threatened. … The league has to do better.”
Alyssa Thomas said she received death threats after last week’s incident & called for the WNBA to take a stand.
“We’re so concerned with safety on the court, but time and time again we’re having people threatening our lives… The league remains silent. I’m sick and tired of it.” pic.twitter.com/CLHzr2fbHB

Engelbert did release a statement on Tuesday regarding what Thomas said:
“The safety and well-being of everyone in our community is always the league’s top priority. We are aware of Alyssa Thomas’ comments, and what she and her teammates have experienced is completely unacceptable and not representative of the WNBA community. The league and our security team have been in contact with the Phoenix Mercury organization and remain committed to protecting all players.”
