The 2025-26 high school sports year is complete, which means it’s time to vote for some of the top players and teams from the area this past year before the 2026-27 season arrives.
This week is boys athlete of the year.
You can vote for the Cellcom Press-Gazette high school boys athlete of the year until 3 p.m. Saturday, July 4. You don’t have to be a subscriber to vote.
Here are the nominees. Be sure to vote in the poll below.
Kingston Allen, Green Bay Notre Dame
The junior running back was named the state’s Gatorade player of the year, becoming just the fourth local football product to receive the award since it was established in 1985.
Allen set the state’s single-season record for rushing yards (3,436) and rushing touchdowns (57).
He rushed for 200 or more yards in 10 of 13 games – he missed a Week 4 contest against Green Bay East with an injury – and scored five or more rushing TDs six times.
Patrick Greisen, West De Pere
The senior quarterback led the Phantoms to the WIAA Division 2 state title and a perfect 14-0 season, throwing for 304 yards and two TDs in the 28-14 title game win over Notre Dame.
He finished the season with 3,864 yards and 49 TDs.
Greisen completed his career with 7,990 passing yards, which ranks sixth all-time despite being a starter for only two seasons.
He is the only player in state history with 100 or more career TD passes and had back-to-back seasons of 3,500 passing yards and 40 TDs.
Greisen also was one of the Phantoms’ top players during the basketball season.
He averaged 12 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals.
Grady Lenn, De Pere
There was no runner more dominant in cross-country and track and field.
The Wisconsin commit won the D1 cross-country state championship in the fall with the third-fastest time in state history and then dominated his two events at the state track meet.
Lenn repeated as champion in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.
He won the 3,200 in a state-record time of 8 minutes, 49.15 seconds, breaking his mark of 8:52.79 set last year.
Brett Paulsen, Kewaunee
The senior was a star in football and baseball.
He threw for 2,061 yards and 24 TDs, rushed for 971 yards and 23 scores and had 37 total tackles and three interceptions for a Storm team that won the Packerland Conference title.
Paulsen was just as good in baseball.
The left-hander was 12-0 with a 0.67 ERA, striking out 141 in 63 innings while recording two saves.
He hit .418 with 33 RBI and 44 runs scored, helping the Storm win the Packerland title and go 28-1.
Kolton Peters, Coleman
The junior is a standout three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track.
He rushed for 1,395 yards and 17 TDs in football and led the basketball team with 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Peters saved the best for last.
He made history in the D3 110 hurdles after winning the event in a D3 record-breaking time of 14.25 seconds, .5 seconds faster than runner-up Garrett Bracewell of Marathon.
Along with the title, Peters was runner-up in the 300 hurdles with a 37.98.
Vince Sigl, Seymour
The senior won the D2 state golf title for the second straight season.
He finished with a two-day total of 139, which was four shots better than runner-up Elliot Skinner of Altoona.
Sigl will compete in college at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Alex Thomas, Green Bay Notre Dame
The senior won the D1 state tennis title with a dominant showing on the big stage, which ended with a victory over Middleton senior Alexander Bo 6-2, 6-4 in the championship match.
The Marquette University commit is the second local boys player to win a D1 singles championship since the tournament was split into two divisions in 1995 and the first since Green Bay Southwest’s Johnny Zakowski in 2019.
