Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson will miss Tuesday night’s showdown with the New York Liberty as the two WNBA juggernauts battle for the Commissioner’s Cup.
Wilson rolled her right ankle in the fourth quarter of the Aces’ win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday, and the Aces ruled out her of the Commissioner’s Cup championship game on Tuesday morning.
It’s a big blow to the Aces, the WNBA’s current dynasty with three championships and a Commissioner’s Cup since 2022.
However, Las Vegas head coach Becky Hammon does not expect Wilson to be out for long.
Hammon told reporters Tuesday that Wilson will “just need a few days” to rest her ankle, generating optimism that the four-time MVP will be back on the floor when the Aces host the Sky on Friday.
Becky Hammon told reporters she doesn’t think there’s any long-term concern with A’ja Wilson’s injury. She is optimistic it’ll just need a “few days” to heal.
“It’s when you get off the court that you realize you probably tweaked it a little worse than you originally thought.”

The Aces are making a prudent choice not to risk Wilson with more than half of the regular season still to play.
The Commissioner’s Cup title game does not count toward the WNBA standings, so it has no bearing on playoff positioning.
Fans will want to see Wilson play Tuesday, but it makes sense that the Aces — pursuing a fifth WNBA title in the past five years — would opt for the cautious route.
A’ja Wilson (ankle) is listed as OUT on the latest injury report heading into tonight’s Commissioner’s Cup championship game.
Makes sense to be cautious, especially since this game doesn’t count towards the standings.
The Aces have the Sky on Friday, Fever on Sunday.
