Several people have been detained by the police in Germiston, east of Johannesburg following incidents of looting and vandalism.
A group of violent protesters targeted houses with foreign nationals and allegedly robbed them of their belongings.
A group of people armed with sticks and knobkieries went from house to house in Germiston south and looted homes belonging to foreigners.
Police and private security pounced on them and effected arrests.
Cellphones and a bluetooth speaker are some of the items recovered.
The situation remains tense.
