The Red Sox achieved an incredible walk-off victory against the Yankees in extra innings on “Sunday Night Baseball.” This win completed a four-game sweep of New York, marking a historic moment for the franchise.
SportsCenter posted a stat on Sunday morning that the Red Sox have never swept the Yankees in a four-game series when Boston was in last place in the division and New York in first place until now.
The Red Sox’s recent victory over the Yankees improved their record to 36-46, but they remain in last place in the American League East. But they are now on a four-game winning streak, potentially giving them strong momentum as they enter the second half of the season.
Before this series against Boston, New York held the outright lead in the American League East. However, after losing four consecutive games to the Red Sox, the Rays now have a one-game lead over the Yankees in the division after Tampa Bay won five straight games.
The Red Sox now have a 5-4 record against the Yankees this season, with their next series coming Aug. 28 through 30.
