Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Keelon Russell has recently been named as a dark horse candidate for the 2026 Heisman Trophy, per CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford.
Russell is an extremely talented quarterback who could quickly emerge as a star as the Tide’s starting signal caller this upcoming season, should he win the job. Standing at 6-foot-3, 201 pounds, Russell flashed his potential on numerous occasions during the 2025 campaign. The sophomore is expected to continue competing with fellow Alabama quarterback Austin Mack for the starting role into fall camp.
The talented quarterback would have a plethora of weapons at his disposal with the Tide’s offense, should he be named as the starter, and Russell could undoubtedly emerge as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, especially if he were to get off to a hot start.
Both Russell and Mack are expected to continue battling each other for the starting role as the regular season inches closer, but Russell could quickly arise as a Heisman candidate if he begins to thrive this season at Alabama.
