The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has questioned why businessman and alleged informer Tumelo Nku was receiving detailed planning information about an alleged drug shipment if he claims he was not involved in the planning process.
The commission is examining screenshots from the messaging app, Threema, found on Nku’s phone.
Nku testified that the screenshots depict conversations between alleged businessman EB and another individual identified as John Wick.
He told evidence leader Advocate Lee Seegels-Ncube that he was only receiving intelligence from insiders and was not involved in planning drug shipments.
Moreover, Nku has sought to clarify the reasons for submitting a supplementary statement before the commission.
Nku explained to the commission that he had reservations about his testimony from last week, which were influenced by fear.
He has been implicated in the Aeroton drug bust that occurred in southern Johannesburg in 2021.
He is also accused of informing Gauteng Traffic Police Chief, Samuel Mashaba, who is currently suspended, about a drug consignment containing more than 700 kilograms of cocaine that was destined for Johannesburg from Durban.
