The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has expelled six councillors from the Ophongolo Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal with immediate effect following disciplinary proceedings.
The decision was taken by the IFP National Council in terms of the party’s constitution.
The councillors were found guilty of five disciplinary charges, including bringing the party into disrepute, repeatedly failing to comply with lawful party instructions and undermining party discipline and organisational unity.
The IFP says the expulsions take immediate effect and that the Ophongolo Local Municipality has been formally notified of the decision.
