The Madlanga Commission has heard that Colonel Francois Steyn allegedly took a loan of more than R400 000 from Radovan Krejcir, a convicted criminal who was believed to be an organised crime boss.
This was confirmed by forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan during his testimony before the Commission.
Steyn, the Hawks’ Gauteng provincial coordinator for narcotics investigations, previously testified before the Commission about the Aeroton drug case.
O’Sullivan’s has further testified that he was surprised to see Steyn giving evidence before the Madlanga Commission in May this year when he has allegedly been linked to Krejcir.
“I nearly fell off my chair because I thought he’d been suspended and dismissed back in 2013 and now I suddenly saw him sitting at this commission. I thought wow and now he’s talking about drug trafficking, he was working [with them] … he was on the payroll of a drug trafficker in my opinion back in 2011.”
“Because he received this money from Radovan Krejcir. So now suddenly a complete turnaround … so I thought it was necessary to include mention of this [to] commissioners,” explains O’Sullivan.
