Malawian and South African authorities are racing to clear Durban’s old Drive-In repatriation site before Tuesday’s protest against undocumented foreign nationals.
The Durban transit site closed on Sunday and is no longer accepting new arrivals.

Officials have halted verification and are relocating only those already processed.
Many waiting to board the buses say they are relieved to be leaving Durban ahead of Tuesday.
“We feel relieved because on the 30th, we were so afraid, but now we feel relieved because we are with the police and they are helping us, and there are a lot of buses, and it looks like we are going home today.”
