According to Sophie Cunningham, it would appear the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark fans aren’t the only ones who have a negative view of the Phoenix Mercury these days.
Cunningham claimed on the most recent episode of her podcast, Show Me Something Sophie Cunningham & West Wilson, that people within the Mercury’s own building don’t like the overall make-up of the team.
Cunningham, who played for the Mercury for six seasons before going to the Fever, said she’s hearing from people with the team that the Mercury have “the unfriendliest group.”
“You know what’s funny? People inside their own organization don’t even like that team this year. They say they’re the unfriendliest group,” she stated. “So we’re not the only ones who feel that way.”

While we obviously can’t confirm what Cunningham is saying, it’s logical to believe her since she likely still has connections inside the Mercury’s building after a handful of years with them.
What we do know is the Mercury are not having a good season, with Phoenix sporting a 7-13 record that has it on the outside looking in for the playoffs.
The reason for Cunningham and the Fever’s beef with the Mercury stems from Alyssa Thomas cheap-shotting Caitlin Clark twice in their most recent game last week.
Thomas put her knee into Clark’s groin and then shoved a fist in the Fever star’s throat while she was on the ground.
Thomas, who has a history of dirty play, was suspended for one game for the throat shot.
After the game, the Mercury didn’t help themselves in the court of public opinion after the team appeared to mock Clark in a now-deleted social media post.
Cunningham went on to rip the WNBA once again for failing to protect Clark, which she believes has led to more and more instances of cheap shots on the Fever guard.

“Unfortunately, this type of s*** happens every single game to her and the league and the refs do absolutely nothing nothing about it,” Cunningham said. “(The players) are definitely targeting her and the league and the refs do nothing to protect her.”
Sophie Cunningham’s viral point
Cunningham had her own little run-in with a Mercury player last week after she got under the skin of former Fever and current Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner by pointing at her for over 20 seconds, which was hilarious and went viral.
“I think it’s dumb, but it was pissing her off and I couldn’t help myself. She was losing her s*** and all I was doing was literally pointing,” Cunningham said.
Cunningham has become a darling among Clark supporters for defending her teammate, both physically and verbally, over the years.
She continues to stack wins, and the trolling of Bonner was just the latest.
