KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says leaders of civil groups expected to embark on countrywide marches on Tuesday have given an undertaking to lead peaceful marches, with no violence or looting.
This comes as widespread protests are expected around the country on June 30th, demanding the departure of undocumented foreign nationals in the country.
Several marches have taken place in different provinces recently, as a prelude to Tuesday.
Ntuli told a media briefing in Durban that the provincial government is ready for the planned action.
“All law enforcers will be deployed in KwaZulu Natal, and there will be also the presence of the South African Defence Force. Perhaps more significant still, is the undertaking we received direct from the organiser. Mr Phakel’umthakathi of Intsizwa, no buntsizwa, and Ms Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma of March and March- both gave their word to government, to their followers, and to this province, that their activities will be peaceful, and that they distance themselves unequivocally from any call to violence and looting.”
