A look back at the 1977 season for the Cardinals
In 1977, the Cardinals went 7-7. It was head coach Don Coryell’s final season with the team.
They had the No. 7 offense in yards and were 11th in scoring, averaging 19.4 points per game.
However, they allowed 20.5 points per game.
They started the season 1-3 then won six games in a row. However, they closed the season with four straight losses.
1977 individual leaders
They had four Pro Bowlers and one first-team All-Pro. Quarterback Jim Hart, running back Terry Metcalf, receiver Mel Gray and cornerback Rogwer Wehrli were Pro Bowlers and Wehrli was an All-Pro.
Hart passed for 2,542 yards, 13 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
Metcalf had 739 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and he had 34 receptions for 403 yards and two touchdowns. Wayne Morris added 661 rushing yards and eight scores.
Gray had 38 receptions for 782 yards and five scores, while Ike Harris had 40 catches for 547 yards and three scores.
Wehrli had five interceptions.
