The time period between Adrian Peterson and Dalvin Cook was a major void at the running back position for the Minnesota Vikings. They find themselves in a similar void between Cook and their next star running back. Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason do not fit the bill, and while I am high on rookie Demond Claiborne, we will wait and see what he develops into.
Instead of drafting their star, should they look to land one via trade?
Garrett Podell of CBS Sports recently went over five superstar players who could demand a trade in the future, and he listed Indianapolis Colts bellcow Jonathan Taylor as one of the five. Podell believes that Taylor could be had for just a third-round pick. If this is the case, the Vikings should be all over this.
Taylor brings a whole new dynamic to this offense. His breakaway speed, paired with his exceptional receiving ability out of the backfield, are tools that Kevin O’Connell has never had on his offense in Minnesota, and has really needed to hit that extra gear. Yes, you likely have to extend him, and the Vikings just got out of salary cap purgatory this offseason, but Taylor could be the missing piece to a deep playoff run, should he become available.
