Many basketball fans likely consider Jaylen Brown one of the best players in the league, but one NBA analytics guy does not share that opinion.
ESPN analyst and former front-office executive Bobby Marks was on SiriusXM radio on Saturday and stated that an NBA analytics person doesn’t have high praise for Brown.
“There are mixed feelings about him when you talk to teams,” Marks said. “Jaylen Brown’s analytics are not good. I’m more of an eye test guy. There are some people out there who look at that a little deeper than the eye test suggests. I had not an executive but an analytics guy, who said ‘we view him as a seventh-best player on a team.'”
It’s pretty wild to think that Brown could be the seventh-best player on a team, and Brown responded to the comments.
“Analytics nowadays used to discredit and control narratives – Roll the ball out, none of these guys better than me on both ends, who does he work for?” Brown wrote Saturday on X.

Brown also wanted to ensure everyone knew how great a player he has been since entering the NBA in 2016.
“Nobody has won more combined regular season and playoff games since I entered the league 10 years ago,” Brown added.

There is a lot more to basketball than just the analytical side of it. The eye test shows that Brown is one of the best players in the NBA. If it weren’t for him, the Celtics would have struggled this past season and would never have won the 2024 NBA title.
