Many of the families of the 21 young people who died at the Enyobeni tavern in Scenery Park, KuGompo City, in the Eastern Cape, are still battling to find closure, four years after the tragedy.
The young people died on June 26, 2022.
Parents Boniswa Rangile and Khululekile Ncandana say they are placing their hope on the inquest to give solutions so that certain people can be held accountable for the deaths.
Rangile says, “I really don’t think it will make any difference, I won’t lie. I would only hope that the inquest gives us solutions so that there can be people who are held accountable for these deaths.”
Ncandana further adds, “We are placing our hope on that judgment, I mean, we cannot make any decision. The inquest is about to conclude, so whatever outcome comes out of that inquest, we will accept it, and the chairperson of the inquest is there to determine is there anyone who should be held liable for the death of those children.”
