Colorado football added another special teams piece Friday, as Saddleback College transfer Cadel Ayala announced his commitment to Colorado.
Ayala, a kicker and punter from Reno, Nevada, gives the Buffaloes a proven leg option after showing range in offseason workout clips that circulated online. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound specialist has reportedly drilled kicks from 50 and 60 yards, and he can also handle punting duties.
For Colorado, the move gives head coach Deion Sanders another layer of depth in the kicking game behind sophomore Elliot Arnold, who is expected to handle the starting field-goal and kickoff work in 2026. Arnold has been in place since the spring, but Ayala’s arrival gives the Buffs insurance and competition in a role that can swing close games.
I’m proud to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Colorado Boulder. I want to thank God, my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I’m incredibly grateful for this… pic.twitter.com/ITs736Vtp9

Ayala began his career at McQueen High School in Reno before moving on to Saddleback College, where he continued developing as a specialist. His background in soccer has improved his footwork and consistency, making him an intriguing addition for Colorado.
Special teams often decide games in the Big 12 Conference, and Ayala’s commitment gives the Buffaloes another experienced option as fall camp approaches.
