The Tennessee Volunteers appeared to have a massive upgrade to their pass rush when they landed Chaz Coleman as a transfer earlier this offseason. However, the former Penn State defensive lineman won’t play a down for Tennessee.
USA TODAY’s Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Coleman has left the Volunteers football team after being medically disqualified. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was a bit bit nebulous in late May regarding Coleman’s status, and this might have been the reason why.
“Chaz has been dealing with some things, and we’re here to support him. We’ll continue to go through that process,” Heupel said.

The former five-star recruit only logged one sack in nine games for the Nittany Lions last season, but was expected to be part of Jim Knowles’ revamped defense for the Volunteers. Coleman played under Knowles last season for Penn State, and followed him to Tennessee.
Reports indicated that the Volunteers paid around $2 million to bring Coleman to the program this winter.
