The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has filed a motion of no confidence in National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza. The motion is in the name of EFF leader Julius Malema.
This follows the decision by the Speaker not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent interdict application in the Western Cape High Court aiming to halt the impeachment process over the Phala Phala matter.

The Impeachment Committee had resolved to oppose the President’s application, and the Speaker has been criticised for not protecting the independence of Parliament.
“The Economic Freedom Fighters has officially submitted a motion to the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, in terms of Section 52(4) of the Constitution, read together with Rule 28 of the Rules of the National Assembly, for the removal of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza, from office.
“ The EFF has taken the decision because the Speaker has fundamentally failed to discharge her constitutional responsibilities of her office with independence and impartiality and integrity of a presiding officer of Parliament,” says EFF spokesperson Thembi Msane.
