The president has acknowledged that illegal immigration remains a major challenge for South Africa, with far-reaching consequences for social cohesion, national security and the delivery of public services.
He says the government has identified undocumented migration as a key issue requiring coordinated intervention, while balancing the country’s constitutional and international obligations.
“The government has identified illegal immigration as a significant challenge in our country which has implications for social cohesion, national security, and the provision of services to our people.”
Ramaphosa has also joined the nation in celebrating Bafana Bafana’s historic victory over South Korea at the FIFA World Cup.
He arrived without his usual formal attire, saying the occasion called for celebration. The President joked that all South Africans had collectively scored the winning goal as he praised the team’s achievement and the sense of national pride it has inspired.
“Please forgive me for not wearing my usual attire, which is a tie and a proper suit. I think it is all in order to be celebrating Bafana Bafana’s victory this morning. That victory was inspired by all of us. Actually, I’ve been telling people that we scored the goal, all of us, collectively, ensured our victory. So, it is a joyous day. It is a day for celebration.”
