Sufyan Moqim’s on-again, off-again move to Derbyshire is now on once more after the spinner was re-signed to replace Mohammad Ghazanfar.
They had initially been recruited as a pair for the T20 Blast, with Pakistan international Moqim to play the six matches before Afghanistan’s Ghazanfar took over for what remained of the campaign.
Moqim, 24, however, was called up for international duty and could not fulfil his commitment at the County Ground as initially planned.
But with 20-year-old Ghazanfar having his workload managed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, and having to cancel his stint with Derbyshire, it means Moqim has been called up for the rest of the T20 Blast.
Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur said the chop and change complexity of the deals are all in “the nature of signing overseas players”.
“With so many T20 leagues and international series happening concurrently, you have to be able to adapt and use your contacts to make the best of a situation,” he told the club website.
“When we received word Mohammad wouldn’t be joining us, it was a blow, but we had good contact with Sufyan’s camp from our first dealings with him and we moved quickly to finalise a deal.”
