A major contract extension is right around the corner for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
The All-Pro signal-caller will be extension-eligible in 2027, and they will have to decide on a number that makes sense for both sides. Keeping the 2025 runner-up for NFL MVP clearly won’t come cheap.
NFL insider Albert Breer joined 98.5 The Sports Hub and predicted what he thinks Maye could potentially earn annually on his next contract.
“70 [million], I think, at least,” Breer said bluntly.
Breer went on to say that he could see that number reaching $75 million annually. The Patriots have clearly been preparing for the deal and how it could impact the rest of their roster. Along with Maye, star cornerback Christian Gonzalez is also up for an extension.
The team will also have to reexamine newcomer A.J. Brown’s contract. Will they be able to keep all three players for the long haul? That’s the biggest question surrounding the team right now.
At the end of the day, the market will dictate the value of each contract on the horizon. It presents an interesting challenge for Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and the front office.
