This year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July is expected to contribute R230m to the city’s economy and create over one thousand jobs.
eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba says the city is ready to host the 150th Durban July, which is expected to attract 40 000 visitors.
This year’s fashion theme, Country Allure will also showcase the work of nine local designers through the municipality’s Durban Fashion Fair programme.
Xaba says the event is one of the most important economic catalysts on the city’s annual events calendar.
“It helps support the city’s economic growth and creates employment. We have prepared and we can ensure safety. What is commendable, is that this event not only brings economic activity to the city center but all the way to our townships, so we are urging those with hospitality establishments in the townships to open them and offer the quality service that Durban is known for so that in future when the city hosts events such as this, those guests come back. This makes us happy as the city of eThekwini.”
