Infielder Caleb Durbin has arguably been the Boston Red Sox‘s hottest hitter over the last week, riding a six-game hitting streak entering Wednesday and raising his batting average 30 points.
Durbin’s streak ended at a half dozen on Wednesday, though that will be the least of the Red Sox’s concerns.
The offseason trade acquisition left Wednesday’s road game vs. the Colorado Rockies in the third inning after suffering a pinky injury.
“Caleb Durbin is out of the game after sliding into first base. Marcelo Mayer (sore left foot) is in at shortstop, with Andruw Monasterio going to second and Anthony Seigler to third. Red Sox 3, Rockies 0, bottom 3,” Boston Globe Red Sox beat writer Tim Healey posted on X. “Caleb Durbin update: He suffered a left fifth finger subluxation, the Red Sox say. Translation: He partially dislocated his pinky.”

Durbin, who began his debut season with Boston ice cold, has drastically improved in June.
He’d gone 11-for-22 with two home runs, three doubles, four runs scored, four RBIs and two stolen bases during his hitting streak.
