The Democratic Alliance (DA) is demanding greater transparency from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) regarding its final implementation report on the recommendations of the Mpati Commission.
The party has lodged a formal complaint with the Information Regulator, accusing the PIC of failing to release key public documents.
According to the DA, the PIC is unlawfully withholding the Mokgoro Advisory Panel report and its final implementation report on the recommendations of the Mpati Commission.
The reports relate to findings of the Mpati Commission of Inquiry, which examined governance failures, conflicts of interest, weak oversight, and alleged misconduct at the PIC.
The commission investigated concerns surrounding the management of the PIC, which oversees approximately R3 trillion in public sector pension funds.
DA Deputy Spokesperson on Appropriations Andrew Bateman says there is a significant public interest in the release of the reports.
Bateman says, “The PIC is a public institution and these are reports held by the PIC created in a course of public function and there’s no lawful grounds for withholding the information and there’s a very strong public interest in disclosure in a sense that the PUIVC is managing worth R3 trillion of public sector pension assets so there’s overwhelming public interest to know that the impati commission recommendation had been implemented and that there has been proper accountability and for transparency…”
The DA says the disclosure of the reports is necessary to ensure accountability and to determine whether the recommendations of the Mpati Commission have been fully implemented. The Information Regulator is expected to consider the complaint.
