Every year I take a look at who I think are going to be the top players on Boise State’s football team. With so many unproven players, coming up with this season’s list was a bit tougher than previous years. This team’s squad is definitely more proven on the offensive side of the ball and that is reflected in our list. Last week, we started our countdown by taking a look at a wide receiver tandem with plenty of potential. This week, we move to the opposite side of the ball with a linebacker that exceeded expectations last fall. Coming in at number nine we have…
Boen Phelps
Phelps is one of the best stories on Boise State’s roster. The redshirt junior started his career as a walk-on out of Spokane, Washington. After the transfer of Andrew Simpson, a lack of depth at linebacker provided an opportunity that Phelps may not have otherwise received. Phelps really burst on to the scene in a late September victory over Appalachian State where Phelps tallied six tackles and an interception that he returned 33 yards for a touchdown.
As the season progressed, Phelps became one of the best tackles on the team finishing with 66 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. 2026 is expected to be a big year for Phelps as he will be a full-time starter and has earned the prestigious number one jersey that holds a lot of weight within the Boise State football program.
Will Phelps emerge as one of the best linebackers in the PAC 12? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
Countdown so far:
