NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell just dropped a major bombshell on Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby: he will not be eligible for the NFL Supplemental Draft.
“The NFL has informed teams that it will NOT be holding a Supplemental Draft, meaning Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby will not be eligible to enter the NFL in 2026. The CBA allows the league to decide whether to hold a Supplemental Draft, and this year, it won’t.”

Rapoport continued, “This is key: “As Commissioner Goodell has emphasized, participation in the NFL is a privilege that carries with it significant responsibilities, including accountability. By all accounts, you are a talented player with the potential for future success.“

It sounds like the league has put its foot down regarding Sorsby and his gambling. So, with Sorsby’s inability to join the NFL this year, what are his options?
He can always join the Canadian Football League, whose season has already started, but maybe he can sign with a team since it’s early in the season. If he can’t do that, he has no choice but to sit out this season.
Rapoport thinks the NFL won’t hold a draft for Sorsby because they won’t have time to investigate the gambling allegations, and because the NFL is strict about gambling.
Wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for a whole year back in 2022 for gambling. He was reinstated a year later.
Ridley only bet $1500, but that was enough to kick him out of the league. Sorsby bet nearly $100,000 during his time in college.
