Two months from today, on 23 August 2026, the new season will officially get underway with the opening weekend of Serie A. After Torino v AC Milan, however, many Rossoneri supporters will be looking forward to their first visit to San Siro of the season – the first home match, live, at the Club’s iconic stadium. After two consecutive seasons in which AC Milan opened their league campaign at home, this year marks a return to an opening away day. In 2023, the Rossoneri began away to Bologna before hosting Torino on Matchday 2. Three years later, the trip to face the Granata on our opening weekend will be followed by AC Milan vs Venezia at San Siro. Over the last ten seasons, from 2016 to 2026, AC Milan have almost always played their first home league fixture in August, welcoming sides such as Torino, Udinese, Cagliari and Brescia, with results generally proving favourable.
The most recent victory in a first home match played on Matchday 2 came three years ago, in the 2023/24 season. AC Milan’s San Siro opener ended in a commanding 4-1 win over Torino, with Olivier Giroud scoring twice from the penalty spot. A similar result came in 2021/22, when the Rossoneri beat Cagliari 4-1 in their first home fixture of the campaign. Two years earlier, in August 2019, AC Milan also made a winning start at San Siro. A 1-0 victory over newly promoted Brescia marked the arrival of a young Rafael Leão, though he remained on the bench throughout the match. The story was different in 2018/19. The season’s scheduled opening fixture at San Siro against Genoa was postponed following the tragic collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa. As a result, AC Milan’s home debut was delayed until Matchday 3, when they edged past Roma 2-1 thanks to Patrick Cutrone’s dramatic stoppage-time winner in the 95th minute.
