The Cincinnati Reds‘ banged-up bullpen is finally getting healthier, starting with the return of right-hander Pierce Johnson, who was activated on Monday, June 22, the team announced.
Johnson rejoined the Reds in New York for their series win against the Yankees over the weekend. He has missed the last three weeks due to elbow inflammation. He appeared in one game for the Louisville Bats on June 19, allowing one run over one inning. The 35-year-old is 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA and one save this season over 24 appearances.
The Reds have also selected the contract of right-hander Julian Garcia from Triple-A Louisville. Zach Maxwell heads to Louisville, and Chris Paddack has been designated for assignment.
Garcia, 31, was a 10th-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016, and his first appearance with the Reds will be his big-league debut after nearly a decade in the minors.
