Bucks County will be under a flood watch starting Monday at 2 p.m. until Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the worst of the rain may take place right at the scheduled start time of the France vs. Iraq World Cup match at Philadelphia Stadium.
The two teams are set to meet at 5 p.m. in their second group-stage match. Extreme weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, intense lightning and isolated tornadoes, could lead to delays or a postponed game.
Under FIFA rules, referees issue a 30-minute mandatory delay if there is a lightning strike within eight to 10 miles of the stadium. Matches then don’t resume until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike.
According to the National Weather Service, a flood watch means “conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur.” It does not necessarily mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.
Highs during the day are expected in the mid-80s, with temperatures at night dipping to the mid-to-low 60s. Wind gusts are expected to be as high as 20 mph.
Buck’s extreme heat warnings look to be of the past, with highs topping out in the 80s through the end of the week.
