With six days remaining before four-star wide receiver Osani Gayles announces his commitment, the Washington Huskies are still firmly in the mix to secure his services.
Even though the 5-foot-11, 185-pound product of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 34 overall prospect and No. 7 wide receiver in the 2027 class, holds a crystal ball to commit to former UW coach Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide out of a top three that also includes the Stanford Cardinal. However, the race for Gayles appears to have turned into a two-horse battle between Jedd Fisch and DeBoer as the Huskies look to add to what is already arguably the nation’s best crop of committed wide receivers.
Even with four wideouts committed, the athleticism and versatility that he provides have made him a top target for Fisch and position coach Kevin Cummings, thanks to his ability to move between the slot and Z positions in Washington’s offense, much like Jacob Cowing did during the coaching staff’s time at Arizona.
“Gifted inside receiver with the intelligence, confidence, and polish to elevate any passing attack,” 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins wrote in Gayles’ scouting report.
“Manipulates defenders with impressive route tempo as he mixes speeds and snaps out of breaks at crisp angles. Can bypass coverage with advanced releases and easy acceleration…Combative more times than not in 50-50 situations with his play strength…Slippery after the catch as he stacks cuts to avoid would-be tacklers…Should be viewed as a potential high-volume slot that can get open at all three levels for a College Football Playoff hopeful.”
The Huskies already hold pledges from four-star prospects Tre Moore, Braylon Pope, and Dontay Tyson, and three-star Zerek Sidney at wide receiver, and Gayles is the only remaining target on Washington’s board at the position.
