Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says they cannot rule out political motives behind the killing of a party ward by-election candidate in Dunoon, Cape Town.
Sinovuyo Dyokwe was gunned down while en-route home from a voter registration venue on Saturday.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Hill-Lewis and a senior party delegation are visiting Dyokwe’s family on Sunday.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the murder of the DA leader in Dunoon, Sinovuyo Dyokwe during yesterday’s voters registration activities. Just months ago, Sino was hard at work growing the DA to our best ever result in Dunoon. We can’t rule out political motives. It will be deeply worrying if DA’s growing presence and support in townships across South Africa is met with intimidation and violence. That has no place in a democratic society and I urge the police to act swiftly to find those who did this.”
