The Inkatha Freedom Party’s KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson Thami Ntuli says he is encouraged to see young people coming out to register to vote.
He visited voting stations at the KwaMashu hostel in Durban.
First-time voters and those changing voting districts have been visiting registration centres as the country rallies eligible voters to register for the November 4 local government elections.
Ntuli urged people to register to get their names on the voters’ roll so that they can exercise their democratic right to vote in November.
“It’s a very important right that we got out of blood [shed]. Many troubles we went through to have this right to decide who will lead local government. They are choosing people who are to lead [them] and will take care of the community needs. Hence it is important that they participate in that kind of democracy. We’re calling upon them to come out and register,” adds Ntuli.
