KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says he received intelligence that a warrant has been issued for him and Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo.
Mkhwanazi was speaking outside the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria.
However, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption ( IDAC) has refuted the claims in a statement released on Thursday afternoon.

Mkhwanazi told the media that he travelled to Pretoria to verify the situation for himself.
“I wanted to witness what was unfolding here today. Just yesterday, we received intelligence indicating that IDAC had given us 48 hours to report to the police station. At first, I was sceptical about this information. When General Khumalo called me to inform me that it seemed the intelligence we received was indeed accurate, I decided to come here. I wanted to confirm the details of the phone call he mentioned, as he was not with me at the time. If it were true that they were looking for both of us, I thought it best to be nearby. The intelligence clearly stated we had 48 hours.”
Meanwhile, the legal representative of Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo and Police General Nosipho Madondo says the pair were instructed by an official of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption to bring an overnight bag, as they were expected to spend the night in custody at the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria.
James Ndebele says the two senior police officials handed themselves over on Thursday evening after receiving communication on Wednesday directing them to report to the station.
However, Ndebele says confusion ensued upon arrival, alleging that IDAC officials were nowhere to be found to process the arrests.
“Upon arrival at the police station they received a phone call by a person who said he is a chief investigator of IDAC who advised them that they should not be in attendance at the police station today due to the fact that they have been instructed by the IDAC director not to execute the warrant of arrest today due to the fact that this is an instruction coming from the senior management. There were reasons advanced as to why they were not processed, and I will not say much on that, but nonetheless, my clients are surprised by what the allegations are.”
