The Madlanga Commission has ruled that the testimony of Witness J will be heard fully in camera after citing safety concerns.
As a result, members of the media and the public will be excluded from Thursday morning’s proceedings. A redacted transcript of Witness J’s testimony will be circulated to the media by Monday next week.
Evidence leader, Advocate Thabang Pooe says, “Reasons in the main: safety and security concerns for himself and his family. The second is to protect investigative leads and ongoing investigation concerns and the last is to protect investigative methods. This application is not brought by the evidence leaders, but is brought by the witness himself, but is supported by the evidence leaders.”
The commission’s public hearings are expected to resume on Friday.
