Protesters in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg, have dispersed after handing over a memorandum at the Tembisa Police Station.
The marchers were led by anti-crime activist and Action SA mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, Xolani Khumalo, and various anti-undocumented immigrant groups.
They are raising concerns over high levels of crime in the area.
They say the police are not doing much about the problem.
They are also raising the issue of undocumented foreigners.
“Let’s start with the one that is affecting everybody. Let’s speak about crime. Let’s pick up on the issue of drugs. Let’s pick up about the poverty that is brought in because our men are not able to even provide for their children because they are not able to be employed. Let’s speak about the resources of the hospitals where our people don’t even have beds because there’s no space. There’s no illegal immigrant. Let’s also speak about the medication that keeps travelling out of our country to other people when our people are actually struggling here,” says one of the protesters.
