Judgment has been reserved in the matter between uMkhonto weSizwe Party and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) at the Electoral Court in Johannesburg.
The MK Party in its heads of argument alleged that the technical glitches that had occurred with the IEC leaderboard system were because the commission had manipulated the system when the dashboard went offline, further alleging vote rigging.
The IEC in turn argued that that the MK Party had not provided any substance to back up its allegations.
The IEC believes it will be vindicated by the court process.
Speaking to the media after court proceedings, Commission CEO, Sy Mamabolo says, “No, no, look, credibility is an important premium in the electoral process, which is why we’ve insisted that the matter be heard. So that it can be determined judiciously on the basis of evidence and not some atmospheric attacks against each other.”
Today, the battle for electoral justice continues at the Johannesburg High Court as the uMkhonto weSizwe Party takes on the IEC. Our votes were stolen by the people who are supposed to be the symbol of fairness. How can we trust IEC again for the next elections . pic.twitter.com/Y2z1S5Z1p5
