The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has argued that the Electoral Commission (IEC) was not transparent about the technical glitches it experienced during the 2024 general elections.
The glitch caused the results dashboard and leaderboard to go blank for over an hour.
The party has always alleged that the IEC had manipulated the system when the dashboard went offline and rigged the elections.
The MK Party is being represented by Advocate Thabani Maskuku.
He has told the Electoral Court sitting in Johannesburg that the commission should have been more honest about the cause of the glitch.
This was the interaction between Advocate Maskuku and the judges of the Electoral Court.
The judge asks, “So no review in paragraph four?”
Masuku replies, “No, the paragraph would be directing the President… We are focused on the system.”
The judge asks, “You don’t want the elections set aside?”
Masuku responds, “We accept that we can only make that call on paragraph four if you have allowed for oral evidence to be read out.”
Today, the battle for electoral justice continues at the Johannesburg High Court as the uMkhonto weSizwe Party takes on the IEC. Our votes were stolen by the people who are supposed to be the symbol of fairness. How can we trust IEC again for the next elections . pic.twitter.com/HlbrR4ZRZF
