The Msunduzi Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says it is ready to welcome thousands of runners and supporters for the 99th Comrades Marathon taking place on Sunday.
More than 21-thousand athletes are expected to participate in the race, marking the 50th up run, from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla says safety measures have been put in place to ensure a successful event.
Thebolla has urged residents and visitors to take note of the road closures along parts of the route.

“There will be some road closures, especially on R103 from Lynepark Lynfield Park towards Scotsville Orobi road. King Edward Avenue from Oribi Road to Ritchie Road, all those roads will be closed. Parts of Bishop Street from Bulwer towards Scotsville, all the precincts around the Woodburn Square, will be closed. There are alternative routes that the public can use. Those who are going to Gauteng the N3 is available except at some intersections.”
