ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile has implored young people to register to vote in their numbers.
Mashatile embarked on a mobilization drive for his party earlier today in Alexandra in Johannesburg ahead of next week’s voter registration weekend.
Several political parties, including the ANC, are intensifying their efforts to ensure that South Africans, particularly young people register to vote.
According to the IEC, 70% of 18 to 19 year olds have not registered to vote despite being eligible.
Mashatile has this message for the youth …
“We want to say to them the future belongs to you, if young people say we want to change this country, but they don’t vote, then they are going to get candidates not of their choice. That’s why they say sometimes when you don’t vote, you are actually voting. But you are voting for who you don’t want. So, we are saying young people, yes, we want you to change this country, we want you to lead, but be there where it matters,” says Mashatile.
