Lekompo musician Lehlogonolo “Shebe Maburna” Chauke‘s bail appeal on new grounds has been struck off the roll at the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo.
His lawyer, Michael Khumalo told the high court that they have appointed a senior counsel, Advocate Laurence Hodes to take over the matter.
Khumalo said Hodes requires sufficient time to study the case documents before the appeal can proceed.
Shebe Maburna has made several unsuccessful attempts to secure bail since his arrest in November.
He faces 20 charges, including three counts of attempted murder, assault GBH and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Khumalo says Judge Karin Pillay granted the defense additional time to allow Hodes to prepare and take over the matter.
“We were given instructions by our client to brief a senior counsel in the matter and we have identified Lourense SC Lourens Hodes a lot of people know him for the big cases that he had done and continued to do so we’ve issued a brief to him. He has accepted the brief and he had undertaken that he is going through the papers to be coming to take over the matter. We will be working with him as the instructing attorney and he will be the advocate but not just an advocate but a senior counsel so his coming to take over the matter,” says Khumalo.
