A joint memorial service for three learners killed when their scholar transport caught fire in Limpopo last month is taking place at Mannyetha Primary School in Ga-Masemola on Wednesday.
Two Grade R learners, Kgodisho Moruthanyane and Lethukuthula Fankomo, both aged six, died in the fire on the Apel Cross-Tswaing road and were burnt beyond recognition. Blessing Puane, nine, who was in Grade 3, later succumbed to injuries in hospital.
44-year-old driver, Mogau Mosehla, has been charged with three counts of culpable homicide and is currently out on bail of R6 000.
School Governing Body member Lephethe Sello said the service was intended to bring closure to the families of the three children.
“We invited the families as you know it’s been hectic for the past three weeks for them to get the results. Finally I think we’ll get closure. We are expecting the Department of Education’s head office, circuit office, district as well, and also the mayor of our municipality and the district mayor as well, and other people that are willing to come — we are also expecting them to come attend this memorial service,” Sello said.
