Butler basketball is adding a tough opponent to its nonconference schedule.
The Bulldogs will face Nebraska in Chicago at the Credit Union 1 Arena, home of the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames, Sunday Nov. 22. Tickets will go on sale soon. The television assignment and tip time will be announced at a later date.
The neutral site match will be the fifth meeting between the two teams. The Cornhuskers hold a 3-1 advantage over the Dawgs; they last met in the 2019 NIT.
Nebraska coach, and former Indiana Pacers guard, Fred Hoiberg returns two of his top three scorers and six total returners from a team that won a school-record 28 games and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 last season.
One of the Huskers’ key offseason additions is a Belmont transfer, Carmel native Sam Orm. Orm earned second-team All-MVC honors, averaging 12.7 points per game on 56 percent shooting along with 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Orme shot 40 percent from 3-point range and averaged 1.6 3-pointers per game.
Butler’s schedule under first-year coach Ronald Nored continues to take shape. Butler will travel to play Boise State Nov. 8 as part of a three-game week with games against Lafayette on Nov. 2 and Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 4.
Butler previously announced five games, all at Hinkle Fieldhouse: an exhibition Oct. 10 against Indiana State, a game Nov. 17 against Western Carolina, and a contest Nov. 27 against Bellarmine.
