Hawks Lieutenant-Colonel Joseph Sebola says the forensic analysis of confiscated cellphones has revealed communications suggesting the existence of a suspected criminal network linked to the movement of shipping containers.
Sebola has testified before the Madlanga Commission that screenshots recovered from a suspect’s phone revealed discussions involving containers, harbour operations and the collection of shipment information.
He says the communications referenced multiple role players, including individuals allegedly positioned at ports and customs facilities. The evidence formed part of the investigation into the 2021 Aeroton cocaine seizure, in which more than 700 kilograms of cocaine was intercepted.
This was the interaction between evidence leader Advocate Thabang Pooe and Sebola, “But this is really to demonstrate that from the screenshots obtained from Mr. Nkrumah, you see different role players. Is that correct? That is correct, commissioners. And that other operations have been run at the pier by Mr. Nku and this individual called Alpha. Correct. ”
