The Atlanta Falcons still have a few roster holes that they should try to address before the 2026 NFL season begins. Defensive tackle and wide receiver should still be at the top of the list. They may also need to add help on the edge in the event that James Pearce Jr. gets suspended by the NFL for a significant portion of the season.
One spot that they definitely don’t have to worry about is running back, where they’re as well set as any team in the league. At the top of the depth chart is superstar Bijan Robinson – who’s expected to sign a new contract this summer that should make him the highest-paid running back in football.
Robinson will be worth every penny so long as he doesn’t suffer a major career-shortening injury, and his ceiling is about as high as anyone who’s ever played the position.
The Falcons also have a new backup behind Bijan after having let Tyler Allgeier walk in free agency, landing a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. They have replaced Allgeier with Brian Robinson Jr., a former third-round pick by Washington who spent last season with the 49ers.
Moe Moton at Bleacher Report has ranked this new duo as the fourth-best in the NFL this year.
“The Atlanta Falcons should have a clever nickname for their backfield duo who have the same initials—B.R. squared? … Every year in the league, Robinson has seen his reception totals increase. It’s only a matter of time until he joins an elite group of players to finish a season with 1,000 rushing and receiving yards, which could be this year… One can make the case that Robinson’s career touchdown total (25) is a bit underwhelming for a running back with over 1,000 touches. His running mate, Brian Robinson, could flourish in short-yardage situations.”
Robinson’s touchdown total may be a bit low compared to other elite running backs, but Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley haven’t had an Allgeier vulturing their red zone carries. It’s certainly no concern for the Falcons, anyway.
In three years as a starter for the Commanders, the other Robinson posted 2,329 rushing yards, averaged 4.1 yards per carry and scored 15 touchdowns. He added another 587 yards and five scores as a receiver. Last season as a backup behind Christian McCaffrey he chipped in 400 yards and two touchdowns.
Those aren’t set the world on fire numbers, but they’re more than enough for a competent No. 2 option, especially when your No. 1 is named Bijan Robinson.
The only real question about this duo is what nickname will stick. We’re fond of Missile Family Robinson, but there’s plenty of time to come up with something better before Week 1.
