Carolina Panthers running back Trevor Etienne may sound like a whole new man this upcoming season.
During his introductory press conference for the New Orleans Saints nearly three months ago, Travis Etienne—Trevor’s older brother—cleared up the pronunciation of his family name. Turns out—it’s not “ee-tee-EN,” it’s actually “ay-chan.”

Trevor provided some confirmation in a recent chat with The Charlotte Observer.
“I mean, that’s actually how you pronounce our last name,” Etienne told beat reporter Mike Kaye. “It’s (pronounced) Achane, but that’s like some people at home — not a lot of people know that.”
Well, they’ll probably have to know from now on—especially after Travis’ standout campaign in 2025. The former first-round pick amassed 1,107 rushing yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns, and parlayed that success into a four-year, $52 million pact with the Saints.
Trevor, who will welcome his brother into the NFC South, is set to enter his second pro campaign. His first saw him serve as the Panthers’ primary punt and kick returner while compiling 94 yards on 20 carries out of the backfield.
