A motorist has been killed in a collision between a bakkie and a truck on the N1 at Botlokwa outside Polokwane in Limpopo. The deceased was driving the bakkie.
The truck driver escaped without injuries.
The road was closed but has since been reopened. An investigation is under way into the cause of the crash, which occurred on Saturday morning.
The provincial transport department’s spokesperson Mashudu Mabata says, “Sadly, one fatality was recorded. The male driver of the VW Amarok lost his life in the accident. No other injuries were reported. The department further appeals to all road users to reduce speed, obey road signs and instructions from traffic officials, and avoid reckless or negligent driving.”
Meanwhile, two more people have been killed and five others injured in a collision between a car and a bakkie at Sibasa, near Thohoyandou.
The department says two of the injured were in the bakkie and three in the car.
