The Democratic Alliance (DA) has opened a case of fraud and corruption against former Ekurhuleni City Manager Imogen Mashazi and her alleged benefactor over tender-related allegations at the Germiston Police station.
The DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, says the move follows reports linking Mashazi’s alleged R3.5 million luxury trips to companies that were awarded municipal tenders.
The party argues the claims warrant a full criminal investigation into possible breaches of municipal procurement regulations and anti-corruption laws.
Rasilingwane says the allegations raise serious concerns about governance, accountability and the integrity of procurement processes within the municipality.
“We should be concerned that the former city manager has violated not just the supply chain management policies of the city, but also key parts of the Municipal Systems Act, the MFMA, and the Prohibition and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act. What we find highly suspicious is that the company involved in this matter, XET Solutions, has won tenders from the City of Ekurhuleni to work on vital infrastructure related to electoral bill payments and is therefore involved within the city billing system,” she says.
