With the summer convert season upon us, Bayern Munich has stripped down the beloved grass down to a bald state at the Allianz Arena to make way for some protective flooring so that the stadium can host several concerts this summer including Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, The Weeknd, BTS, and Helene Fischer.
It’s the first Brazilian seen on the pitch since Douglas Costa! (“ba-dum-tss”)
The process for stripping the turf (as pictured below) is pretty interesting, but there is always an inherent risk of how the sod takes once reapplied. The big concern is that removing/reapplying sod can ruin the the root system, create seams and instability, and even cause death (of the grass, not of players— just in case you needed clarification).
The Allianz Arena pitch is being removed to prepare for the upcoming concerts that will take place in the stadium this summer: Linkin Park (June 11/12), Foo Fighters (June 17), The Weeknd (June 25-27), BTS (July 11/12), and Helene Fischer (July 17).
After that, work will resume to install a new pitch for the new season

With the NFL coming in the fall, this could be a rough stretch for the groundskeepers and grass experts on staff at Bayern Munich.
